Charge State Effects in Swift-Heavy-Ion-Irradiated Nanomaterials

چکیده
The aim of this experimental work was to investigate the influence ion beam charge state on damage production in nanomaterials. To achieve this, we employed Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy nanomaterials irradiated by a 23 MeV I beam. We found significant monolayer graphene, but no evidence effect bilayer trilayer nor graphite. Furthermore, CaF2 SiO2 nanocrystals with same

Sintered samples of monoclinic zirconia (α-ZrO2) have been irradiated at room temperature with 6.0-GeV Pb ions in the electronic slowing down regime. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and micro-Raman spectroscopy measurements showed unambiguously that a transition to the ‘metastable’ tetragonal phase (β-ZrO2) occurred at a fluence of 6.5x10 cm for a large electronic stopping power value (≈ 32.5 MeV μm). ...

Swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiation of conventional glasses results in non-saturable plastic flow as a consequence of the ion hammering effect [1]. SHI irradiation of amorphous Si (a-Si) at non-perpendicular incidence also leads to unsaturated plastic flow, which shows a linear dependence on the ion fluence. The positive direction of flow suggests that a liquid phase with density similar to that ...

Isotropic carbon is the material of choice for the rareisotope production target and beam catchers of the future Super-FRS. During operation both components are exposed to high-intensity ion beams and may suffer from radiation damage. To better understand damage formation processes in graphite, irradiation experiments were performed at the X0 beamline using 11.1 MeV/u Au-ions and different flue...
متن کاملStructural modification of swift heavy ion irradiated amorphous Ge layers at low temperatures
Recent room-temperature irradiation experiments exposing amorphous germanium (a-Ge) to 185-MeV heavy ions (SHI) at the ANU accelerator facility (Canberra, Australia) revealed strong volume expansions [1]. A detailed study of this effect using various irradiation parameters [2] demonstrates that this swelling is caused by the formation and growth of randomly distributed voids leading to a gradua...
